Abstract

This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) on 20 students. The purpose of this study is to improve reading comprehension skills using the Cooperative Integrated Reading And Composition (CIRC) model assisted by big book media. The use of the CIRC model makes students actively involved in discussing, interacting and exchanging ideas with their group members. And by using the help of big book media, it can arouse students' enthusiasm in learning because there are interesting pictures that can stimulate students' minds to appear brave and self-confident in reading comprehension activities. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis by looking at the average score and percentage obtained by students on the final cycle test and also from the results of student and teacher activities during the learning process each cycle through observation sheets. The indicator of success in this study is if students are declared to have completed learning if they get a good score category of at least 71% individually. The average score of the reading comprehension skills test in cycle I was 70.5% and in cycle II 83.25%. The average value of teacher activity in cycle I was 62% and in cycle II 83%. The average value of student activity in cycle I was 58% and in cycle II 80%. It was concluded that the use of the CIRC model assisted by big book media can improve the reading comprehension skills of fifth grade students at SDN 39 Tamalalang
