Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah karena adanya suatu kondisi dimana belum adanya implementasi kemampuan literasi matematika pada siswa, dimana siswa cenderung kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi atau menetapkan permasalahan, strategi penyelesaian, dan operasi hitung yang akan digunakan pada soal berbentuk cerita kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan model pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi matematika siswa kelas VIII MTsPN 4 Medan. Metode penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif, jenis eksperimen dengan desain Post-test Only Control Design. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes kemampuan literasi matematika siswa berupa soal uraian. Uji normalitas, homogenitas, dan pengujian hipotesis dengan uji-t adalah digunakan sebagai bagian dari pendekatan analisis data penelitian ini. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh hasil sig. (2-tailed), dimana hasilnya 0,000 yakni < 0,05. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat keefektifan yang signifikan pada model pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi matematika siswa.
